ABC RADIO NETWORK CONVERSION TO MPEG DIGITAL WITH WEGENER PLACES MAJOR ORDER TO BEGIN SECOND PHASE

With Over 400 Stations Converted the Project is an Ongoing Success

Duluth, Ga. - January 23, 1996 - Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR), a manufacturer of audio, data and video transmission products and systems based in Duluth, GA, today announced the receipt of a major new order from ABC to continue the conversion to digital, which started in 1995, on two more formats -- Real Country and Country Coast to Coast. Wegener has completed shipments of its MPEG subcarrier digital audio receivers under a previous order. Shipments on the new ABC order are to begin in February 1996.

Commenting on the Wegener equipment Bob Donnelly, Vice President of Engineering for ABC Radio Network, said, "The radio stations are very pleased about the improvement in audio quality and ABC is happy with the way Wegener has performed." Mr. Donnelly continued, "Wegener's on-time delivery of such a large scale order, with a very short lead-time, was impressive. The Wegener products are based on true MPEG standards, not some proprietary system. This open architecture is very attractive to ABC."

"We will complete the conversion to digital which started in 1995 on two more formats -- Real Country and Country Coast to Coast.
