WEGENER RECEIVES SATELLITE NEWS GATHERING ORDER FROM SWEDISH BROADCASTER
Duluth, Ga. -- November 13, 1996-- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR), a manufacturer of audio, data and video transmission products and systems based in Duluth, GA, today announced it has received an order from TERACOM Svensk Rundradio AB for its Series DV2000 MPEG (Motion Picture Expert Group) digital satellite news gathering (SNG) equipment. TERACOM, with offices throughout Sweden, is owned by the Swedish government. The SNG equipment purchased consists of the DVT2000 transmitter featuring broadcast quality video, signal security, data rates from 2.5 to 15 Mbps, and flexible transmission parameters. The transmitter is controlled locally with a front panel keypad and LCD display, or remotely through an RS232 modem port. The DVT2000 transmits one compressed video signal, up to six mono audio channels, one asynchronous data channel, and network control information. The audio input signal for the DVT2000 may be analog or AES/EBU digital. The DVR2000 IRD occupies 1.75" of rack space and is a complete L-band Integrated Receiver/Decoder. It features composite,S-Video, and Serial D1 video outputs, and MPEG data inputs/outputs. It also provides relay contact closures for control of external devices. TERACOM, for more than 70 years, has been responsible for the operation of all terrestrial broadcasting of radio and television transmissions in Sweden. Services include commercial business television and radio, remote broadcasting and satellite transmissions. In addition, TERACOM designs, builds and maintains all the 700 broadcasting stations in Sweden. TERACOM is part owner of the Tele-X and Sirius satellites located on 5 degrees east.
