SATELLITE CONNECTION TO EQUIP SNG VEHICLES WITH WEGENER DIGITAL VIDEO TRANSMISSION PRODUCTS
Duluth, Ga. -- April 4, 1997-- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR), a manufacturer of audio, data and video transmission products and systems based in Duluth, GA, today announced it has received an order from Whiteland, IN based Skyline Communications, Inc. for its DV2000 series digital video transmitters and receivers. The digital video equipment will be used by SATELLITE CONNECTION in its state-of-the-art satellite uplink vehicles to transmit sporting, news, and special events from throughout the country in analog, digital, C-band and Ku-band formats. The digital equipment purchased consists of DVT2000 transmitters featuring MPEG-2 video, signal security, data rates from 2.5 to 15 Mbps, and flexible transmission parameters. The transmitter is controlled locally with a front panel keypad and LCD display, or remotely through an RS232 modem port. The DVT2000 transmits one compressed video signal,up to six mono audio channels, one asynchronous data channel, and network control information. The audio input signal for the DVT2000 may be analog or AES/EBU digital. The DVR2000 IRD occupies 1.75" of rack space and is a complete L-band Integrated Receiver/Decoder. It features composite, S-Video, and Serial D1 video outputs, and MPEG data inputs/outputs. It also provides relay contact closures for control of external devices. Skyline Communications, Inc., who will provide integration and technical support services, has been engineering and installing satellite earth stations and VSAT equipment since 1990. SATELLITE CONNECTION provides complete, on-location satellite uplinking services including both space segment andterrestrial transmission logistics management.
