WEGENER MAKES KEY MANAGEMENT CHANGES

Duluth, Ga. -- May 7, 1997 -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR), announced it has made key management changes to more aggressively focus Wegener's sales, marketing, and strategic planning activities.

Keith N. Smith joins Wegener as Vice President, Business Development. In this capacity Mr. Smith will oversee Wegener's Strategic Planning and Marketing Departments. "I'm very excited about the future at Wegener Communications," Mr. Smith states. "The existing digital products - teamed with the new digital video and audio products being introduced - will put Wegener in an enviable position."

Keith N. Smith was previously Vice President / General Manager of Microspace Communications. Mr. Smith was a co-founder of Microspace, and led the company to become the worlds largest provider of satellite broadcast data & audio services.

Jay Batista has been promoted to Vice President Sales after serving as Manager, Domestic Sales. Leading domestic sales through four years of steady growth, Mr. Batista combines a 14 year career in the satellite communications industry with a dynamic solution sale emphasis. In his new position, Batista has implemented a "vertical market" organization within the sales department that facilitates industry-focused sales efforts.
