FOX SPORTS NET AND FX NETWORKS CHOOSE WEGENER UNITY™ MPEG-2 FOR DIGITAL CONVERSION

Duluth, Ga. -- May 19, 1997 -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR), has received an order to manufacture fully addressable MPEG-2 digital video receivers for FOX Sports Net and FX Networks. These receivers are part of Wegener’s UNITY product family and, teamed with Wegener’s COMPEL Network Control System, will be utilized by FOX cable services including FOX Sports Net, FX, and fXM: Movies from FOX. The value of the order is in excess of $11.8 million with deliveries scheduled to begin in fiscal 1998.

The Wegener control system allows us to instantaneously reconfigure our 3000 cable affiliates and nine regional networks manually or on a pre-defined schedule," said Pyper Davis, Senior Vice President, Operations for FOX Sports Net. "The Wegener control system has been very reliable. When it came time to convert to digital technology, Wegener control and digital integrated receivers were the obvious choice for our network."
