WEGENER RECEIVES ADD-ON ORDER FROM THE WEATHER CHANNEL
DULUTH, Ga., August 6, 1997 -- Wegener Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR), announced it has received an order for an additional 500 Weatherstar Jrs from The Weather Channel. This order is a continuation of a 1993 manufacturing agreement between the two companies and brings the total quantity ordered under the agreement to 3000 units. Deliveries of this order is expected to be completed by September 1997. The Weatherstar Jr is based on Wegener's Series 2450 Graphics Display Unit coupled with custom software developed by Wegener for the exclusive use by The Weather Channel. The Weatherstar Jr is used by The Weather Channel affiliates to receive text-based local weather forecasts. "The Weather Channel has been a customer of Wegener's since 1986," said Bob Placek, President and CEO, Wegener Corporation. "The Weatherstar Jr is a successful product because it was developed in a close teamwork environment. The Series 2450 Graphics Display Unit is an addressable hardware platform which allows the transmission and storage of text and graphics throughout a dispersed network."
