ASCENT/NBC EXPANDS COMMITMENT TO WEGENER DIGITAL VIDEO

COMPEL NETWORK CONTROL FOR NBC NEWS CHANNEL

April 8, 1998 - NAB, Las Vegas, NV: Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR) announced today that ASCENT Network Services, a division of ASCENT Entertainment Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: GOAL), has selected DVT digital video encoders, UNITY digital video receivers and COMPEL, Wegener’s patented network control system. These products will be utilized by NBC News Channel.

In addition, at an affiliates’ meeting (NAB, Las Vegas, April 5, 1998) NBC News Channel announced its commitment to Wegener digital video products and ASCENT Network support services for NBC News Channel’s digital SNG (Satellite News Gathering) activities. ASCENT and Wegener expect additional orders as NBC News Channel affiliates now plan to embrace digital SNG technology.

Larry Tennant, Vice President and General Manager of ASCENT Network Services, said, “NBC News Channel is pleased with the performance of the Wegener DVT encoder/modulators they now utilize. These units have provided superior picture quality to NBC’s news feeds. We were particularly impressed with the DVT’s flawless performance, with often unfavorable weather conditions, during the Pope’s trip to Cuba."

Tennant adds that NBC News Channel required more extensive network control capabilities which it will now enjoy through the COMPEL Network Control System.
