ABC LAUNCHES NEW CABLE NETWORK WITH WEGENER UNITY

SPEER WORLDWIDE TELEPORT TRANSMITS SERVICE

July 29, 1998 - Duluth, GA: Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ:WGNR), announced it has delivered an order to Speer Worldwide for Wegener UNITY digital video products and the COMPEL network control system. The order also includes Wegener DVT series digital video encoder / modulators.

ABC-TV is launching “All My Soaps” in selected markets with an agreement reached with Time Warner Cable. Operationally, the new channel uses the vast storage and retrieval resources of the Nashville-based Speer digital storage facility. To deliver the content, the cable channel uses the DVB-compliant Wegener UNITY4000 receiver and the Wegener COMPEL advanced network control system via Speer’s on-site Teleport.

The COMPEL network control system provides the tools to facilitate management and growth for the new network. Wegener worked closely with Speer to launch the service and optimize the band-edge transmission for two carriers.
