WEGENER INTRODUCES ENVOY THE DIGITAL VIDEO COURIER—A NEW STANDARD FOR NEWS AND EVENTS GATHERING

NAB, Las Vegas -- April 21, 1999 -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR) today introduced ENVOY, a new standard for satellite and terrestrial news and event gathering. ENVOY is an integrated encoder/modulator that includes the highest technologies available for both video quality and modulation.

The ENVOY is based on DiviCom video encoder technology. Both MPEG 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 modes come standard with every ENVOY. Regular and low latency modes give broadcasters flexibility. High-speed data feeds can be integrated into the data stream.

For satellite communications, the ENVOY comes standard with both QPSK and 8PSK modulation built-in. 8PSK modulation gives operators the most efficient use of satellite capacity. For terrestrial microwave use ENVOY comes with an integrated COFDM modulator.

Wegener Communications will continue to provide its DVT2000 series encoders for MPEG 4:2:0 applications.
