FOX DIGITAL SELECTS WEGENER FOR SYSTEM-WIDE UPGRADE

Duluth, GA -- September 23, 1999 -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR) announced it has received an order exceeding $6 million from FOX Digital, a Unit of FOX Television. The order consists of UNITY5000 IRD’s (Integrated Receiver Decoders) plus COMPEL Network Control. The UNITY5000 will allow for the delivery of high quality standard definition and high definition digital video feeds from the FOX Network to its affiliates. These units will replace the Wegener analog system that has been in use since 1993.

“The time has come for a complete system-wide transition to digital,” said Richard M. Friedel, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Operations for FOX Digital. “Wegener’s COMPEL Network Control System remains a key factor that keeps us coming back. Our business depends on it.”

Mountain, Senior Vice President for Wegener Communications states, “The receivers incorporate advanced modulation techniques, allowing FOX to transmit significantly more data on their satellite system than previously thought possible. This feature, coupled with the power of COMPEL Network Control convinced FOX to place this order in anticipation of a January 2001 cut over to total digital transmission.”
