TV AZTECA CHOOSES WEGENER UNITY FOR DIGITAL UPGRADE

Duluth, GA—September 28, 1999—Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ: WGNR), announced it received an order during its recently ended 4th quarter in excess of $1 million for digital video broadcast equipment from TV Azteca, located in Mexico. This order consists of Wegener UNITY4422 digital IRDs (Integrated Receiver Decoders), the UNITYMUX 4010 data multiplexer, plus COMPEL Network Control with COMPEL-CA encryption.

TV Azteca, one of Mexico's leading television broadcasters, will use the UNITY4422 to receive high quality digital video feeds throughout Mexico. Wegener's COMPEL Network Control with COMPEL-CA encryption allows TV Azteca to manage regional sporting events and specialty programs. TV Azteca plans to have their new system on the air prior to the end of 1999.
