Wegener Awarded $2 Million Order for MediaPlan(TM) and Digital Storage Products
(April 17, 2001) DULUTH, Georgia Wegener Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR), a leading provider of digital satellite transmission equipment to broadcast television and cable networks worldwide, announced today that it has received a $2 million order from a major private network operator. Wegener Communications will be providing it's customer with MEDIAPLAN, a COMPEL option module that supports the scheduling and delivery of multimedia content to Wegener multimedia equipped IRD's. The order further adds Wegener's Play And Store (PAS) cards to UNITY receivers, which allow the client to transmit digital content such as advertisements during periods of low satellite bandwidth utilization, store the content locally, and replay the advertisements at appropriate times. This substantially increases the functionality of Wegener's UNITY series digital receivers and the COMPEL network management system to deliver programming to network subscribers. Wegener will ship products for this order during the next 18 months, commencing in February 2002. "With the power and sophistication of our COMPEL network management system and MEDIAPLAN, our client will be able to increase flexibility and functionality while reducing costs," said Keith N. Smith, President of Wegener Communications. "Network operators are looking for ways to deliver advertising targeted to specific demographics and particular locations, while maintaining the efficiencies of centralized content origination. COMPEL and MEDIAPLAN enables network operators to create original content in one location, transmit the data via satellite in the most cost-effective method, store it locally, and deliver the content to the right audience at the right time. This order, scheduled to be shipped in early 2002, supports our optimism for the future and demonstrates the potential of our COMPEL-based digital receivers."
