Fox Cable Network Groups Continue Growth With Wegener UNITY – NASCAR Drives Demand

Wegener technology to supply Fox programming to new cable affiliates

(May 14, 2001) – DULUTH, Georgia – Wegener Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR), a leading provider of digital satellite transmission equipment to broadcast television and cable networks worldwide, announced today that it has received a significant order from Fox Cable Network Groups for UNITY 4000 series digital receivers. The network’s NASCAR television package, in its initial season, has attracted new cable affiliates nationwide and the additional technology has been ordered to accommodate delivery and decoding of programming throughout the Fox broadcast system.

Wegener will ship products for this order during this third quarter of fiscal year 2001. Upon completion of delivery of this order Wegener will have shipped more than 10,000 UNITY-series receivers to Fox Cable Network Groups. With this order Wegener’s 18-month backlog stands at $22.3 million up from $20.7 million on March 2, 2001, an increase of approximately 8 percent.
The NASCAR television package has achieved significantly improved television ratings compared to previous racing campaigns. According to independent industry sources, NASCAR television ratings are currently second only to NFL football telecasts among major professional sports.
