WEGENER CORPORATION REPORTS IMPROVED RESULTS FOR FIRST QUARTER OF FISCAL 2002

(January 14, 2002) - DULUTH, Georgia - Wegener Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR) today announced results for the first quarter of fiscal 2002, ended November 30, 2001. Wegener's revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 2002 were $6.0 million, with net earnings of $132,000, or $0.01 per share, compared to revenues of $5.0 million, and a net loss of $584,000, or $(0.05) per share, for the first quarter of fiscal 2001.

The Company's eighteen month order backlog was $17.2 million as of November 30, 2001 compared to $16.1 million at the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2001.
