WEGENER SUPPORTS NCTA HDTV INITIATIVES
NCTA
Cable2002, New Orleans, LA -- May 8, 2002 -- WEGENER (NASDAQ: WGNR)
today publicly announced its support of NCTA (National Cable & Telecommunications
Association) voluntary industry actions to speed the transition to digital
television.
In a May 1, 2002, letter to the FCC, NCTA President and CEO Robert Sachs
pledged that the nations ten largest cable operators would carry up
to five digital television stations by January 1, 2003. These cable
operators collectively serve more than 85% of the cable customers in
the United States. The companies include AT&T Broadband, AOL-Time Warner,
Comcast, Charter Communications, Cox Communications, Adelphia Communications,
Cablevision Systems, Mediacom Communications, Insight Communications,
and CableOne.
WEGENER President & CEO Robert A. Placek stated "The NCTA has shown
great leadership in getting the collective support of ten leading cable
operators to carry DTV signals by January 1, 2003. We are proud to offer
active support of this initiative through our new DTV700 processor,
allowing cable operators to economically take off-air DTV signals and
inject them into digital cable systems."
The DTV700 processor is on display today at the NCTA Annual Convention,
the Cable2002 trade show in New Orleans. The DTV700 processor can be
seen in the Arris booth #3233.
