WEGENER INTRODUCES THE DTV735 CABLE GROOMER

The first digital groomer that is cost effective for cable network distribution

(January 20, 2003) — DULUTH, Georgia — WEGENER Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR) today introduced the DTV735 Cable Groomer, a space efficient single rack unit device for processing digital streams in cable headends.

"Cable programmers have told us that at many systems they need the ability to digitally groom or select programs from a larger digital stream", states WEGENER Communications Executive Vice President Ned Mountain. "The devices that existed were both too expensive and not easily controlled in a large network. We have answered the need with the DTV735, especially when used with the new UNITY4600 Cable Network Receiver."

The DTV735 Cable Groomer has an ASI digital input and output, with an optional DHEI digital output to feed legacy digital cable plants. An integrated WEB control and monitor interface enables the remote control and monitoring of DTV735 Cable Groomers. When deployed in cable networks using the new UNITY4600, the system's digital stream can be COMPEL Controlled. This empowers a cable programmer to control digital networks as individual sites, regional groups, or the entire network with a single command.
