FOX SELECTS WEGENER FOR DIGITAL CABLE NETWORK

1000 unit order provides networks with complete digital solution

(January 27, 2003) — DULUTH, Georgia — WEGENER Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR) announced today that it received an order from FOX Cable Networks for UNITY4600 receivers and DTV735 digital groomers. The 1000 individual units will ship in WEGENER's 2003 fiscal year.

"The combination of the UNITY4600 receiver with advanced DPI support features and the DTV 735 groomer allow economical digital transitions serving both new and legacy headend configurations."

The new DTV735 fills a much needed niche for cable networks. Developed from WEGENER's DTV700 series of digital television processors, the DTV735 takes an ASI digital input, such as that provided by the UNITY4600, and then provides a groomed digital output through a DHEI interface.

"The UNITY4600 IRD will fit most locations, but at existing cable headends that need a DHEI interface the DTV735 groomer works like hand and glove with the UNITY IRD's. WEGENER will be working in tandem with technology partner Harmonic for this project. FOX has also selected Harmonic MV50 digital video encoders for transmission of its 13 owned and operated regional sports networks and nationally distributed cable service FX.
