ADDS KEY MANAGEMENT MEMBERS
A New Sales and Marketing Focus
Duluth, Ga. – August 18, 2003 -- WEGENER Corporation
(NASDAQ: WGNR), has announced it has made key management additions and
changes to the company’s sales, marketing, and engineering departments.
“We saw the need to both enhance our ability to market the new
digital products we have developed, and add knowledge to our strategic
planning to make sure we have the right products in the future,”
states WEGENER President and CEO Robert A. Placek. “We have found
the right people.”
WEGENER has appointed Jay Batista to the newly created position of Vice
President, Corporate Development. Batista comes to WEGENER from Harris
Corporation’s Broadcast Communications Division where he led a
Sales and Marketing team of four Sales Directors and over sixty sales
people to consistent increases in sales volume. In his new position
Batista is responsible for creating and implementing a new corporate
sales strategy.
Placek adds, "Jay’s goal at WEGENER is to create a more sales-driven
company that can deliver significant year-to-year revenue growth, taking
advantage of WEGENER’s new digital products. He has both the perfect
background and the drive to get that done.”
Batista holds a BA from Miami University of Ohio, and an MA in Broadcast
Management from Ohio University. He has been a frequent speaker at industry
conferences on the subject of digital television.
Kamy Merithew joins WEGENER as Vice President, Marketing. Merithew comes
from Motorola/General Instrument where she served as Product Line Manager
for professional satellite video receivers used in the broadcast and
cable industries. Merithew will use her product development and marketing
strategy experience to both help WEGENER develop the right new digital
products and market the benefits of those products to WEGENER customers.

this vision both internally and to our prospective customers.”
Merithew holds a BS, General Engineering from Harvey Mudd College, and
an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at
San Diego.
Jeff Simyon has been named Vice President, Control Systems Engineering.
Simyon has managed WEGENER’s Compel Network Control Group, and
his work is credited with giving the company the leadership position
in satellite network control that it enjoys.
Ned Mountain states, “Jeff has excelled as a manager, a software
architect and a developer. He is a remarkable innovator. His work has
been critical to the company in achieving such key customers as FOX,
Muzak, NBC, Roberts and Autotote.”
Simyon holds a BSEE from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
