( June 18, 2004 ) - DULUTH, Georgia – WEGENER Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR ), a leading provider of satellite transmission solutions for broadcast and cable television networks worldwide, today introduced the WEGENER DTV 720 Digital Multiplexer at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2004 in Orlando, Florida. The WEGENER DTV 720 is the newest addition to the popular WEGENER DTV line of digital multiplexers and stream processors. “Our DTV product line is our latest generation of products to serve the cable industry - both large and small operators,” stated Ned Mountain , Executive Vice President of WEGENER. “We are pleased to announce that several large operators, including Charter Communications, have approved WEGENER DTV products in their systems.” Equipment manufacturers must gain corporate approval from large cable systems (Multiple System Operators - MSOs), who rigorously test equipment in their laboratories, before allowing it to be sold into their regional operations. Utilizing the WEGENER DTV 720, cable operators can combine off-air High Definition programming with other digital programs to create new suites to offer to their customers. The Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC) has created a standard mechanism for descriptions and titling of programming, called PSIP, for use in Program Guides displayed to the cable customer. WEGENER DTV 720 provides complete control over the PSIP data, which is sent digitally with the programming, so that operators can modify the descriptor information before it is presented to their customers. WEGENER released the first DTV product in 2002 and is expanding the product line as the needs of the industry evolve. “The low cost per channel that we offer with the DTV series has attracted our customers to this solution,” adds Mr. Mountain.
